Magtech .22 failed ammunitionMagtech SubSonic .22 LR ammo - bought from Hunting and Fishing (Warkworth), watch out for this ammo! This was a nasty, horrible experience which blew part of my rifle to bits!There seems to have been a particularly bad flange of lead on one of the Magtech .22 subsonic rounds, which caused slower than normal acceleration of the projectile down the barrel, the projectile did leave the barrel, and landed some 6 inches below previous grouping, the case failed catastrophically, ruptured and blew out, gas escaped downwards and shattered the ruger rotational magazine into about 30 pieces, scattering the remaining 6 live rounds and the pieces of magazine to the floor. The bang was very very loud and scared the s**t out of Stella and myself. Thankfully, apart from the magazine there's no visible damage to the rifle. I re-cleaned and inspected the rifle immediately afterwards, the cleaning brush pushed out a shard of lead (you can see this slither on the later photos). It's my belief that this was some over-hang from the casting, (you can see an example of this on a live round in one of the later photos). I'll be taking this up with Hunting and Fishing who supplied this ammo to me, and staying well away from this stuff in the future. Thankfully, everyone is fine apart from some ringing ears and some shot nerves.
